The Library
The comprehensive specialized library is a true treasure of the Museum of Lacquer Art. The original inventory of literature that was taken over together with the collection was and is continuously and systematically enhanced, thereby providing specialists, private collectors and students alike with a rich source of scientific insights.
The antiquarian volumes of European lacquer recipes from the 17th to the 19th century are undoubtedly a highlight of the museum's inventory. The remarkable literary range is also completed by rarities such as a multi-volume work focusing solely on Japanese lacquer saddles and the first editions of Goethe’s “Theory of Colors” and his “West-Eastern Divan” – the latter in its original cover made of Persian lacquer!
The unique treasure of antiquarian reference works containing European lacquer recipes from the 17th to the 19th century, which fills several bookcases, is available for scientific research. Students in particular are welcome at any time (with prior notice) and our experts will provide competent and professional support for their research.
You are welcome to use our library for study purposes with prior arrangement by telephone. If you have any questions, please contact:
