| 1930s | Entrepreneur Dr. Kurt Herberts (1901–1989) begins collecting historical lacquers. |

| World War II | Only a few pieces of his precious collection survive the air raids. |

| From 1949 | Kurt Herberts systematically rebuilds the collection. |

| 1982 | BASF Coatings acquires the private collection. |
