During his 20 years of service as lacquerer to the court of Augustus the Strong, Martin Schnell created a large number of lacquered furniture items, wall panels and decorative furnishings for the residences of the Elector of Saxony and King of Poland. The main body of his work is kept at Wilanów Castle in Warsaw, and at the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen museums in Dresden.

In close cooperation with Muzeum Pałac w Wilanowie, the Museum für Lackkunst has produced a catalog of the collection, with scientific articles that present new findings on the lifework of this significant lacquer artist of the Baroque period.

The book, whose publication was supported by the Foundation for German-Polish Cooperation, appeared as a research contribution to the German-Polish Year 2005/2006.
